End Of Strike - InformationCouncilCouncil voted on Friday to endorse the joint proposal. This had been accepted by the Alliance membership by 173 to 16 with 12 abstentions on Thursday. The vote passed by Council was not unanimous.Summary of what Council passedThe present policy on rents, achieved as a result of the negotiations and the rent strike, is that there will be no presumption of any rent increases until the Access and Costs committee (now being set up) has reported in November on costs, comparability, and the possibility of abolishing the KFC. At this point a long term rents policy will be decided. Any possible increase for next year will be capped at 3.5% (for someone staying for the ten week term) or 6.5% (for the eleven week term). Council’s previous policy of an 8.3% increase each year for four years is scrapped. The Account.Following the approval of the proposal both by the membership and Council the money in the account (over £230,000) will be transferred later in the week. If there is anyone who for some reason does not want their money paid over to College, please contact Martin (e-mail mvl22 or box 238) by Wednesday lunchtime. In this case money will be returned to the individual. College will treat such individuals as non-payers, and thus liable to sanctions. The account is being closed down this week, therefore anyone wishing to pay any outstanding bills should pay them to the College in the normal way. What happens nowOver the next week KCSU and the Senior Tutor will be making arrangements to set up the Access and Costs committee. More information will follow soon.Other collegesTrinity, Jesus, Selwyn, Emma and Pembroke are all still on strike, with possible resolutions in some of these expected very soon. The Room BallotThis is now proceeding as normal. The KCSU Fair Ballot will not be needed. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work and support during the whole campaign. Copyright © 2000 Access Alliance |
